PASSED and FAILED stations

All stations in the Reciva database are subjected to an automated daily streaming test.
Stations that fail over 5 consecutive tests (typically 5 days) are marked as FAILED.

However, since around February 2010, when Reciva were doing substantial work on the back-end systems, it looks like the StreamTester is no longer automatically marking stations as Failed. This means that there are stations that are visible on the radios that are not playable. It is not known by people outside Reciva when the automated marking of failures will be restored. A possible reason for this is that the Reciva iRadio app for Apple devices can play some stations that are not playable by the Reciva radios.

The stream testing software is essentially an automated radio - using a version of the same software that is installed in the radios.

PASSED stations stream in a suitable format for the radios and should play on the radios. FAILED stations WILL (almost certainly) NOT play on the radios.

On the old-style portal (https://www.reciva.com/) a search will show all stations whether they have passed or failed. If you add a failed station to My Stations it WILL NOT play on the radio. On the new style portal (https://radios.reciva.com/) a search will, by default, show only passed stations.

Additionally, stations that have failed the streamtest will not appear on the radio's "location" and "genre" listings of available stations.

You may find that a station you have assigned to a preset stops connecting - this may be because the station has changed its streaming address or streaming codec - presets are stored statically on the radios - while My Stations should refelect any database changes.

A failed preset is best handled by 'retuning' the station via Genre or Location and re-assigning the preset.
