The Reciva Portal
The are two implementations of the Reciva portal - the Users' Portal and the Database Stream Portal. You can access the Users' Portal via a standard browser. The Database Stream Portal is only accessible via the radio itself.
A 'translated' version of the database is available via the Users' Portal where you can add particular stations to your My Stations list - these streams are then available via the radios under the My Stuff menu item. The portal displays stations theoretically available on the radios. Every 24 hrs the stations are checked to ensure that they play on the radios. The checking process continues for 5 days - if the station then doesn't pass the check it will be be marked as failed, and will no longer display on the radios. If you are searching for a particular station, bear in mind that many stations (particularly in the USA) change their streaming addresses and often will not work. AAC streams via Streamtheworld will NOT currently work on the radios.
When you add a station via My Stations it is always worth checking beforehand to see whether the station has passed or failed the daily streaming test. 'Failed' stations will not work on the radios. In short, no Flash RTMP streams, or Streamtheworld AAC, will currently work successfully on the radios.
The Reciva Database portal can only be used with 'Reciva-enabled' radios (containing the Barracuda and Stingray modules). There is no way that other radios (such as the Flow Evoke, Revo Radiostation, etc.) can access the portal. These use one of the other common portals, such as Frontier Silicon (V-tuner) and The Lounge (Flow Evoke). Similarly, the Reciva radios cannot access other portals.
Two Reciva Webpage Portals for Users
There are two webpage portals which are important for all users:
1. The Reciva Community Forum (
http://forum.reciva.com/ ) - this is where (until 29th March 2011) you used to be able to raise questions, request help, complain (!) and discuss.
2. The Radio Users' Portal (
http://radios.reciva.com ) - this is oriented more to radio management features and offers a more sophisticated Search feature for discovering particular radio station information, as well as access to Third-party features such as Mp3Tunes, etc. Links to the Users' Forum are listed at the bottom of the page on this portal.
Users are encouraged to use the Radios portal for managing their radios and radio content.
Portal Reliability
The actual feed of stream information to radios is carried out by a series of database servers across the globe - this affords a degree of redundancy such that the station stream information should always be available to the radios, independently of whether the user portals are operating or not. The reliability of this sytem is almost 100%.
There have only been two major instances in the last 2 years where the database servers were briefly unavailable. If this happens, theoretically, you should still be able to access stations which are stored in local presets on the radio itself.
In practice, you will occasionally find that the user portal servers are temporarily unavailable, but the database servers work as normal.
Branded Portals
Some manufacturers have their own
branded version of the Reciva portal - these do not differ in functionality from the main Reciva portal
