Reciva down and/or unreachable - Will the radio still work?

The short answer - is Yes, but with limited functionality - you should be able to access any stations stored in your presets. All other stream access will not be available if the Reciva database servers are unreachable. But read on ...

The Reciva service has (as far as outside end-users are concerned) 2 key aspects of service.

a) The Reciva database provides the data that the radios use to find content such as stations, podcasts, On Demand, "My Stuff" and tie-in with 3rd-party services
b) The Reciva Portal provides an interface to web users to manage "My Stuff" and access radio content through a browser

These functions are not provided on the same physical machine(s).

A web-based utility allows you to check whether the Reciva webserver is down for everyone, or whether the problem is more likely your own network connection: [WWW]http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/radios.reciva.com

So, if the Reciva webserver(s) are down or unreachable, or if the web application is not running, then it does not prevent the radios from being used as normal.

However, such a failure would prevent web-based management of "My Stuff" (e.g. , editing My Stations, My Streams and My Podcasts), submitting a new station for inclusion in the database, or chatting with other users on the forum (e.g. you would not be able to ask if they know why the web service is down!).

The radios access stream addresses using a distributed global network of database servers - in theory, this means that if one server fails, then the radio should be able to continue by using another server. On very few occasions there have been instances when the entire database has been unreachable. Again, in theory, your radio should continue to work via the presets which are stored on the radio itself (and not in the database). See the wiki page on [WWW]Presets for further info (It's more informative than it may at first appear !)

The [WWW]Sharpfin Enhancement Pack adds a facility to be able to edit the presets from your web browser - please note installing this is not a trivial task.

If the Reciva database servers are unreachable, you should still be able to use locally stored files via the Media Player option.
